Any student who wants a fun and rewarding career should think about going to dental school. A large number of educational institutes offer nationally accredited programs. A degree in the field will result in a high paying job with tons of benefits.

A student can gain employment in several areas of dentistry. They can become a certified assistant and help the physician clean and care for patient's teeth. Another option is to go all the way and earn a master degree. This allows for practice and a dentist, orthodontist or oral surgeon.

The programs are highly competitive and students must be fully prepared in order to get in. A high GPA and DAT score are vital to the process. In addition, several prerequisites must be completed before even being considered for entrance.

Most students take a few years of general studies before ever applying to a dentistry institution. Mandatory classes include several years of college level mathematics, English composition, technical writing, speech and psychology. In addition, students have to take courses that are geared toward the program such as human anatomy and chemistry. A grade point average of 3.5 or higher is usually required to get into a school of dentistry.

Acceptance into a facility is just the beginning. Students will carry a course load that includes microbiology, oral pathology and radiology. Discuss the options with a counselor. They are skilled in helping students create a perfect balance of homework and personal life, while keeping their grades in order.

In addition to the courses, students also have to finish several hours of clinical work. Most people enjoy this part, as it allows them to actually work in the field. Read the program rules carefully to see how much time is required.

Dental school is a great option for anyone who wants a stable, yet exciting career in the medical field. The job provides a high rate of pay and comes with many benefits. Graduates who gain a career in dentistry can expect to have a lot of fun.
